Flight record

Every flight below came off the aircraft’s own flight recorder. Nothing here is a simulation, a projection or a target.

This is not every flight we have ever flown, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It is every flight we still hold a usable log for, and it begins in 2022-11-25. A good deal of our flying is missing from it. Through much of 2024 we flew on a manual stick with no autopilot fitted, so there is no telemetry to publish at all; early airframes destroyed their recorders on impact; and log retrieval off the autopilot is still not fully reliable. A flight with no log is not evidence, so it is not here. What that costs us in the headline number it buys back in the only thing that matters about a record like this: you can check every line of it.

Flights logged 267
Reached fixed-wing flight 26
Distance flown 108.9 km (75.6 km of it on the wing)
Longest single flight 12.2 km
Peak groundspeed 179 km/h
Soft landings 208 of 267
Flying days 53

We publish this because the usual question about a company our size is whether the aircraft actually flies. A dated record answers that better than a brochure.

What you are seeing: every log from real flight-control hardware where the aircraft left the ground. Ground runs, where it armed and never lifted off, are excluded and counted separately. Simulation runs are excluded entirely.

What we hold back, and why:

  • Where we fly. Ground tracks are drawn from the aircraft’s local position in metres, then rotated so the true compass orientation is gone. There is a scale bar and no coordinates. You can see the shape of a flight and how big it was, but not where it happened.
  • The flight logs themselves. The raw .ulg carries our whole control tune and every configured limit, so we do not publish it or any parameter from it.

Landing quality is measured from descent rate in the moment before touchdown: soft under 1.5 m/s, firm up to 3.5 m/s, hard beyond that. Where the crew recorded something the telemetry could not see, such as a tip-over, the crew’s judgement is used instead. We publish the firm and hard ones too. Breaking things is how the aircraft got good.

Groundspeed, not airspeed. There is no pitot on the airframe, so every speed here is GPS groundspeed and will differ from airspeed by the wind.

The table below names the aircraft for each day. Where two names appear, we mean it: those airframes ran identical flight software, so their logs are identical in every respect that would tell them apart. Rather than pick one and sound confident, we print both.

Aircraft What it is
EP90 The smallest of the tail-sitters. 90 mm calibre.
EP150 150 mm calibre. The airframe most of the early hover and thrust-vectoring work was done on.
EP250 250 mm calibre. The aircraft behind every fixed-wing number on this page.
EP450 450 mm calibre. First flew August 2026, after the last day recorded here.
Redbird Not a tail-sitter at all – a 3D-printed quadrotor, printed in red, built to carry and release an air-dropped aircraft. It flew in the drop campaigns that predate this record.

Aircraft are named by tube calibre in millimetres, the way a round is.
